That is a fair argument, however, the vast majority of artists have not been as public about how their work relates to themselves. ![]() One could argue that the same is true for all artists in relationship to their art. However, he was at a different place in his life with each one of these films. ![]() Arguably few directors have ever been much of a public rock star the way that Tarantino is, and he has in no way mellowed or come close to losing relevance. More than anything, this list attempts to put the work of Quentin Tarantino into perspective, including his acting roles, his work on TV, and his select screenplays that ended up being directed by someone else. It isn't as if you are going to get to the end of this list and realize that QT has petered out. Just what are the best Quentin Tarantino movies? Make no mistake, just because one of those films is ranked over the other on this list, doesn't mean that it's a bad film. While it might not make much sense to even announce you're quitting, especially if you're really not, has Tarantino ever done anything in the prescribed way people say he should? However, to throw all of Tarantino’s movies into the trash would discount the impossible talent of his frequent collaborators and stars like Sally Menke (who edited all of Tarantino’s movies until her death in 2010), Uma Thurman (who not only played the protagonist of Tarantino’s most iconic movies but was also credited as a co-writer on Kill Bill ), Samuel L. It’s true that in this new light, for many, there may be nothing redeemable about his entire oeuvre. Given the current political landscape, Tarantino’s work has undergone a serious critical re-evaluation from Black and feminist critics and scholars who point toward both his allegedly abusive behaviors and the offensive politics and rhetoric of his films. ![]() His clever mashups of genres, exquisite sense of aesthetic, impeccable editing, uproarious suspensefulness, and impossibly quippy dialogue have been endlessly imitated. This director’s hyper-stylized, retro fantasy worlds have come to define cinematic coolness. Of all the contemporary film auteurs, perhaps no one’s work has permeated pop culture as thoroughly as Quentin Tarantino’s. ![]()
